A prime example: our relationship with Heating Airconditioning Refrigeration Distributors International (HARDI). This international trade association of nearly 1,000 member companies, over 430 of which are US–based wholesale distributors of HVACR equipment, supplies, and controls, represents over $25 billion in annual sales and an estimated 90% of the U.S. wholesale HVACR market. Over 80% of its distributor members are small businesses with fewer than 100 employees. TRC and HARDI have agreed to work collaboratively to promote mercury thermostat recycling with on-going awareness communication and co-branded promotional materials.
HVACR wholesale distributors account for over 70% of our collection locations and have collected over two-thirds of all mercury thermostats recovered through the program in 2010. So our partnership with HARDI – for which we are extremely grateful – is an example of a true win/win. Together we make thermostat recycling easy.
