Participation as a collection site is very simple. We provide all you need to store, ship and promote the collection of mercury thermostats. TRC charges a modest $25 one-time fee (per container) to participate. Once enrolled, we provide collateral materials to help promote the program at your site and pay all recycling and shipping costs.

The recycling containers are reusable plastic bins that hold up to 100 thermostats each. Containers are clearly branded as TRC property that should only be used to recycle mercury-containing thermostats and are bar-coded and assigned to specific collection sites. When initially shipped to you, the container comes with program guidelines, a plastic liner, twist ties for sealing the liner, zip ties for sealing the container and a pre-paid universal waste shipping label for return shipment. Upon receipt of a full container, TRC will return the same, but empty, container with a new set of guidelines, a liner, zip and twist ties and a pre-paid universal waste shipping label.
