Thermostat Recycling Corporation Milestones

The year 2018 marks Thermostat Recycling Corporation’s 20th Anniversary.  We are proud of the work we’ve done over the last two decades. Since 1998, Thermostat Recycling Corporation has collected 2.4 million thermostats. This amounts to over 23,000 lbs of mercury which has been safely collected and disposed of.

 

1998

TRC began in 1998 when thermostat manufacturers voluntarily initiated a take-back program aimed at safely collecting mercury containing thermostats.  

2004-2007

Between 2004 and 2007, manufacturers halted production of mercury thermostats.

2006

The first mandatory Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) law is passed.

Total collections surpass 500,000, reaching 529,483.  

2007

By 2007 thirteen states had passed mandatory EPR laws.

2010

Total collections hit 1.1 million.  In 2010, TRC thermostat collections peaked at 200,064.

2015

Total thermostat collections surpass 2.1 million units.

2016

TRC moved to Ft. Washington, PA in 2017. 

Total thermostat collections exceed 2.2 million.

2017 

By 2017, Thermostat Recycling Corporation collected over 2.4 million thermostats.
