Who Will Be the Next Big Man on Planet?

Posted May 15, 2014

May 1st marked the official launch of our 3rd annual Big Man on Planet competition! Two years ago, in partnership with HARDI (Heating, Air-conditioning and Refrigeration Distributors International), we launched “Big Man on Planet” in an effort to provide some friendly competition among HARDI member distributors to see who could recycle the most mercury thermostats.  And it has been amazing to see the results of this competition and how it has grown.

The inaugural winner in 2012 was Johnson Supply, whose 23 participating collection sites recovered 14lbs of mercury during the 3 month competition. Last year we upped the competition to span for six months and the winner was Johnstone Supply, whose 69 participating collection sites recovered more than 107lbs of mercury!

This year, we’ve decided to change things even more to give smaller companies an equal chance of competing with the larger ones. We will choose one winner from each tier below based on company size that will be recognized at the 2014 HARDI Annual Conference in San Antonio this December.

  • Tier 1: 1-10 locations
  • Tier 2: 11-40 locations
  • Tier 3: 41+ locations

And, we’ve sweetened the pot even more. We will give a $500 gift card to be used as an employee incentive to the branch location from each winning company that recycles the most mercury thermostats!

All HARDI distributors may sign-up by 5/31 to participate, and once signed up they will receive promotional toolkit downloads via Email to promote their participation. So far we have more than 270 locations participating in this contest. So, what are you waiting for? Be in it to win it!
